We’re always working to enhance and update online security and fraud protection for our members. As part of this ongoing effort, we’ll be making some minor upgrades to our Mobile and Online Banking platforms. So, let’s take a look at coming login changes and other improvements.
Security questions are being discontinued as a login authentication option.
In April 2021, we’ll be discontinuing the use of security questions in favor of more secure forms of multi-factor authentication, such as SMS text message, email, and voice. As social media use becomes more wide-spread and people have more personal details on the web, security experts have concluded that security questions can be vulnerable to “social engineering” phishing attacks by cybercriminals.
If you currently use security questions, you should make sure Salal has your current phone number and email in our system. If you would like to use SMS text message for your login authentication, please note that you need to have a mobile device that can receive SMS text messages and you need to verify your device through Mobile or Online Banking. For instructions on how to verify your device, visit our FAQ page.
Mobile and Online Banking will look a little different.
Starting on February 3, 2021, your Mobile Banking app login screen and the Online Banking secure login box on the right side of the Salal homepage will ask for both username and password. Previously, you were only asked to enter your username in the secure login box and then you entered your password on the following page. This change is also part of our security update and will improve login security.
There is nothing special members have to do regarding this update. Just remember to enter both your username and password starting on February 3.
